MANSFIELD BICENTENNIAL TIMELINE EXHIBIT AT MAIN LIBRARY
A Mansfield Bicentennial Timeline will be on exhibition at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library beginning June 20 through the month of August. This state-of-the-art graphic presentation in 24 panels celebrates the life of the city in historic images, photographs and words in recognition of Mansfield’s 200th birthday and in commemoration of the Library’s 100th birthday.
The historical overview of Mansfield begins with the first prehistoric and tribal peoples to inhabit this land, and then traces the growth of the city decade by decade from its inception in 1808 to the present.
Significant milestones from the past are highlighted in the exhibit with the use of rare images like a portrait of Jared Mansfield from the West Point Museum Art Collection at the United States Military Academy; never-before published documents like a handwritten petition from Mansfielders protesting the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850; rare photographs like an image of an Isaly’s milk delivery carriage in 1905 before the company grew; and memories not often seen like the Smart’s Accordion Band from the 1950s.
A portable display, printed on 7-foot tall lightweight fabric, the Timeline is designed for traveling to various venues in the area throughout the Bicentennial year. Commissioned by the Mansfield Bicentennial Committee and funded by the Friends of the Library, the Timeline will be hosted by the Main Library through the summer.
