Services available in the
Audio Visual Department

Audio Visual Services provides non-print materials for customers of all ages. The collection at the Main Library is substantially larger. Audio visual materials shelved at one location may be delivered to any other location for pickup. Materials being sent from Main Library to a branch will usually arrive the following day. Materials going from one branch to another may require two business days.

DVDs
A large variety of entertainment and educational/informational DVDs are available at the Main Library.

Many foreign films are also available.

Entertainment DVDs and some educational/informational DVDs are available at all branch locations.

Video Cassettes
A variety of entertainment videos is available at all locations. A large collection of educational/informational videos is available at the Main Library. Most new films are no longer available in VHS.

Compact Discs
A collection of classical and popular music on compact disc is available at the Main Library. Branch locations also have small collections of popular music available on compact disc.

CD-ROM
A variety of educational and recreational CD-ROMs for both adults and children are available for check-out at all locations.

Audio Books
Full length and abridged fiction and nonfiction audio books on cassette and CD for adults, teens, and children are available at the Main Library and all branch locations. At the Main Library, children's audio books are located in the Children's Dept.

Audio Books in MP-3 Format
A growing collection of audio books in MP-3 format are available at the Main Library.

Audiovisual Services
for the Blind

Descriptive Videos and DVDs
A selection of descriptive videos is available at the Main Library. Descriptive videos include a narrator giving a verbal description of the action and the settings in addition to the regular dialogue. A small group of DVDs also contain a video description track. These are primarily PBS programs but a few are feature films.

Talking Book Program
Talking book machines can be acquired by any Richland County resident free upon sign-up with the Library of Congress' Talking Book Program.
